  • The Legend of L'Inconnue | Zingaro Blue

The Legend of L'Inconnue by Lesley Neesham (now Price) & Denis Chopin In 2009 Lesley started a concept album with singer/songwriter Denis Chopin and their band Mulberry Hawk all about a beautiful and mysterious young woman whose body was taken from the river Seine in Paris 130 years ago. The girl was called L'Inconnue de la Seine (The Unknown Woman of the Seine). L'Inconnue's enigmatic smiling death mask became the face of the rescucitation model 'Annie' which is used all over the world to practice mouth to mouth rescucitation. The story was delivered through the 19 songs written by Denis Chopin and Lesley Neesham and played live by their band Mulberry Hawk featuring Mario Price on violin and illustrated by film and artistic photography. With the star of the show dancer Faye Hanson who beautifully interpreted the music's changing moods from passion to depression, hope to despair. Faye made the character of L'Inconnue real, believable and fascinating but kept true to her mystery, tragedy and elusiveness. Combined with the dramatic narrative of the wonderfully talented David Norfolk (Starwars, Bodyguard, Midsummer Murders) the effect had been said to be quite stunning. A beautifully illustrated book was published with 19 song and on writing the book Lesley & Denis decided that it would only be right to dedicate everything, the book, the songs and the show to the memory of Asmund Laerdal who was the creator of Rescue Annie. On contacting Laerdal medical the company asked to see a copy of the book and were impressed with what Denis and Lesley had achieved so far and gave permission to go ahead with publication. On the 3rd July 2012 they performed for the first time at the fisher theatre in Bungay. Around 20 minutes before show begin they were informed that Tore Laerdal, Asmund Laerdals son was in the theatre to see them perform. Tore loved the show and took the show and Team under his wing. Tore Laerdal supplied them with the money and the venues to carry on with the show and take it as far as they did. Performances in Norway, France, Ireland and the UK were arranged. Unfortunately and due to circumstances out of their control, Mulberry Hawk disbanded in 2014. What remains is a beautiful album with stunning songs and great memories that will stay with everyone who was involved and the people who were lucky enough to see their performances, forever. Knowing that Mulberry Hawk are still a piece of Laedal history is a great acchievement and a huge honour and Lesley & Mario are both humbled to have been a part of something very special. The Legend of L'Inconnue / Compilation I would like to thank Tore Laerdal and his Team for one of the greatest experiences of my life and for believing in all of us. And to my Legend Team, you will always be a part of me..I love and miss you very much. • Lesley Price | Zingaro Blue

Lesley Price The Legend 0f L'Inconnue was born in Doncaster, England, the daughter of a Yorkshire man and a German lady from Hannover. As a child she dreamed of becoming a dancer, so she enrolled at ballet school at the age of 4 and had her first stage performance that same year. She continued to receive acting and singing lessons. Aged eleven, her parents moved to Germany and of course she had to move with them. As a result of this Lesley became fluent in the German language. Lesley has been writing songs from the age of eleven but was interested in all forms of performing arts, she soon expanded her horizons and started working as a backing vocalist in recording studios across Europe where she recorded with some of the best musicians, including “The Chris de Burgh Live Band”. It was on one of these occasions that producer “Glenn Pocorni” recognised her abilities as a performer and a solo career was born. As “Sarah Jeen” she soon became an established recording artist, her powerful voice being broadcast on television and radio all over Europe including BFBS/Germany. Bill boarding with Errol Brown (Hot Chocolate), Jennifer Rush, Matt Bianco, Fine Young Cannibals, Smokie and Nicole (former winner of the Eurovision song contest), just to mention a few and writing songs for a wide variety of different artists. In the television show “A Rose for Göteborg”, Lesley performed for King Karl Gustav & Queen Sylvia of Sweden. After touring Europe professionally for 25 years, Lesley finally returned home to perform in England for the very first time in 2002. It was in this time that she met singer/ songwriter ‘Denis Chopin’ and together they formed the Lowestoft based band ‘Mulberry Hawk’ with ‘GaryDurance’ on drums and ‘Phil Chapman’ on Bass. Mulberry Hawk released 4 albums: Night Hunter (2005 Uk songwriting competition finalists), Undercover (2008), The Legend of L’Inconnue (2012 UK songwiting competition finalists) and their last album Coverup, which was released in 2013. It was however the concept album ‘The Legend of L’Inconnue ’ which was to prove life changing for her! It told the story of ‘The Unknown Woman of the Seine’. A mysterious young girl who was found floating in the river Seine in the late 1880’s. Nobody knew who she was or why she died. Inspired Lesley wrote ‘The Ballad of L’Inconnue’ the first of 19 songs with co-writer ‘Denis Chopin’, which later became a Theatre Concert performed by Mulberry Hawks new line up with ‘Richard Hubbard’ now on Bass and featuring the amazing talents of ‘Mario Price’ on violin! Assisted by dancers ‘Faye Hanson’ and ‘Louise Smith’ and the wonderful acting skills of ‘David Norfolk’ (Sky Fall, Star Wars Rogue One, Midsomer Murders etc.) the show would become, one of those amazing things you do in life, that you will never forget. The show had 18 active members and toured from 2012 in Ireland, Norway, France and the UK finishing in Londonin 2013. In this time Lesley became an ‘author’ and wrote a book also entitled ‘The Legend of L’Inconnue’. After 5 busy years and due to circumstances beyond their control Mulberry Hawk disbanded in 2014 and after a stressful time Lesley decided to take a break from performing and finally started writing songs again in 2015, this time collaborating with husband, Mario Price. Five years down the line Mario and Lesley have written over 60 new songs! Many of these have been released as albums or videos on Youtube under the new band name Zingaro Blue. Lesley says: 'It's been wonderful playing with all of these fantastic musicians but we are ready for a little less stress and can't wait to produce more songs and videos. SARAH JEEN 1987 "These were taken along time ago, the music has changed and so have I. It's evolved to something so much better and I'm very proud of what I'm doing now. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we have creating it" SARAH JEEN 1987 "These were taken along time ago, the music has changed and so have I. • Mario Price | Zingaro Blue

Mario Price A talented musician since childhood, Mario started playing the violin at just 4 years of age. His whole family, born to music , father on piano, mother on the violin, and two brothers on cello and vocals it was obvious that they were a talented bunch. Mario studied the violin at the ‘Welsh College of Music and Drama’ for several years in Cardiff. At School, Mario performed in the ‘Gwent Youth Orchestra’ and at University played with the ‘London University Orchestra’. It was in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia that Mario joined a ‘Scratch Band’ and discovered his ability to improvise and harmonise to anybody playing anything, in any key! An unusual talent for a classically trained violinist. On return to the UK in 1990 Mario visited the Lowestoft Folk Club where he met local singer/ songwriter ‘John Ward’. John and Mario became ‘The local Folk act’ in Lowestoft and they played numerous festivals over the 20+ years toether ie. Latitude, Folk East, Broadstairs, Cambridge, Ely and many more….He features heavily on several of John’s albums. Mario also played for 28 years in the local Celidh Band ‘Skiphire’. In 2011 Mario received a call from Lesley who was looking for a violinist to join her and ‘Mulberry Hawk’ on their concept album ‘The Legend of L’Inconnue ’ . He never looked back. Mario’s inventive improvisation and sensitive harmonies were a wonderful accompaniment to Mulberry Hawk’s music and Lesley’s voice. The audience adored Mario’s ferocious jigs and reels, stirring Gypsy music, swinging jazz tunes, all played with a mixture of Welsh/Italian passion. This still applies today! Mario featured on both Mulberry Hawk’s ‘The Legend of L’Inconnue’ and ‘Cover-up’ albums. After all the hard work Mario is happy to dedicate most of his time to writing more songs.
